Beneficios de tener programas en administracion de proyectos.

Napolitano, N. Successful GAC Accreditation Session Held in Washington DC. GAC Update, Volumen 6, Issue 10, October 2010.
  • The PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) held a successful half-day session on Friday, 8 October 2010, just prior to the PMI Global Congress 2010 – North America, in Washington, DC United States.
The GAC session had a dual purpose. The first was to showcase to interested universities varied and successful accredited project management education programs from all over the world. “Participation is motivation,” said John Cable, PMP, GAC Board Chairperson, and Director of the Center for Excellence in Project Management at the University of Maryland. “Seeing others who have done it makes them say, ‘I can do this.” The second purpose was to allow interested programs to network with educators who had already launched successful and accredited programs.
Throughout the session there were presentations from educators who stressed the benefits gained from structuring a separate project management program and having it accredited by GAC. Presenters included Gary Richardson, PhD, PMP and Graduate Program Coordinator for the University of Houston, United States; LuAnn Piccard, PMP and Assistant Professor at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, United States; Jill Owen, Academic at the University of New South Wales at Australian Defence Force Academy, Australia; and Nolan Quiros, Ph.D. and Vice President of Academics at la Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional (the University for International Cooperation), Costa Rica.
Some educators turned out hoping to create programs which meet growing employer demand. Paulette Alexander, the representative from the University of Northern Alabama said that many companies are now looking for recent graduates to already have some level of project management experience even for entry level positions.
Shinichi Konishi, the General Manager of Academia for the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan, came to the session hoping that he could further his non-profit group’s goal of preparing PM programs for universities. “There are so few programs,” said Konishi. “Engineers need better knowledge and experience with resource allocation and human labor management.”
Whereas up to now there have been guidelines for the industry in the form of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), GAC’s goal is to create a uniform academic performance standard for all the graduates of accredited programs. “We’re trying to establish commonality at the global education level,” said Cable.
As of October 2010, there are
71 GAC accredited programs in 30 universities around the world. GAC’s goal is to continue expanding that number to adequately meet the needs of growing student demand for project management education.
